This one:

http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4274538383…

So I talked to my dad, and he actually said okay (my dad doesn't like shit around the house/yard). Now, say I do buy it, with 2 bent valves and limited compression, I can still drive it home right (as long as I don't take the highway)?

Don't you already have a Lancer? I assume you are making this your project car, I approve.

Can't say if the car will be good to drive on the highway. What you can do is ask to take a test drive with the owner and see how it holds up on the highway.

Yeah, but my Lancer is my DD. I know nothing about the transmission (flappy paddle), and I just don't want to modify it. That, and I would have no way to get to school if I fuck up. The 240 would be something I can completely rip, bash, paint with spray cans, cover in bondo, whatever.

Seems like a nice project. I like the later style 240's a little more though.

Hm. Good price for a (relatively) unmolested notchback.

What are your plans? Turbo KA24DE, just fix it and drive it, or some swap? If you got it to run and did the right mods, some of these S13s are going for $5000+ in the right areas due to all the drifting demand.

Fix it, drive it, learn to do basic skids (on a track), then eventually, when I get the money again, do a swap. Maybe a V8.

Eventually, I would like to DD it. I've always wanted a 240.

I doubt it will be drivable. I'd go look at it first with a friend or a relative and check over every inch of it before you buy it. It doesn't look like it has had an easy life—you'll probably spend nearly 2 times the listed price before you get running right and roadworthy based off my experience with my car—granted it's not a 240sx, but I've had been there before. Always spend money getting it running right first, then if you have any left over spend it on whatever you want. Realistically, the car probably has had no maintenance other than very basic stuff like oil changes, belts, plugs etc; it will need more serious stuff that will be due for its current mileage like changing the tranny fluid/filter and diff fluid. Project cars are always more expensive than you anticipate, regardless of how much planning you do; you always run into something you didn't expect. If you have the money, time, and willpower for a project, go for it. If not, buy mechanically stable beater for a bit more and drive the shit out of it.

Noooooo don't do that!! Everyone destroys their 240sxs! I say you make it into a track ripping monster!! But hey, this is your car, so you do what you gotta do. I recommend swapping the engine for more power. KA24 is a truck engine. . . it sucks.

You would probably want to flatbed the thing.

My advice:

Brakes and tires first, suspension later. Don't lower it. Don't add an LSD. Get good tires and a Z32 brake kit (cheap, they're almost bolt-ons for the S13 I think, and seriously improve your braking and handling). Drive it until you're extremely confident in how the car moves. I repeat, brakes should be your #1 upgrade, because even if they won't make you slide better, they WILL keep you from crashing. Learn to bleed and maintenance your own brakes as well, and keep track of how thin your pads get.

Eventually, swap in a MECHANICAL R200 LSD with proper ratios, urethane bushings, some basic suspension mods that will work with a future V8. By now you should be about ~$2000-3000 into the car. Drive it for a little longer.

Go swap in an SBC or LS1 with 6-speed transmission. Light on power.

I've seen way too many cars that slam it, drift it, and swap it right away and end up DESTROYING the car. The ones that do it slowly, building around the motor before it gets put in, always fetch a higher price and look a lot better in the long run, with no destroyed body kits or broken strut towers.

I want to eventually learn how to swap an engine (hopefully a v8, yes I'm serious).

Yeah, don't worry. Learning how to get the car running and maintaining it is #1 priority. doriftoing is far far far in the future.

Hey if you do get it, id be happy to lend a hand if you need any help/extra hands. I dont think your that far from me.

Possibly see how much it would cost to get someone to trailer it. it wouldnt be far, and then you wont risk potentially damaging anything else. You know anyone with a pickup and a trailer?

I was planning on u-hauling it, or hooning the shit out of it, and taking the chance that it doesn't shit out on me while I'm in the middle of Newark lol.

I kinda looked at it, and though, well, "if the piston is fucked, i can replace that, but then i need an engine stand, a lift, i need to buy 4 new pistons, 8 new valves, I have class starting next week, internships in the summer, and only 1200 dollars, I need either a cheaper car, or more money."

I'll take my chances, and try to look for an S14, S13 hatch, or a miata. I love the 240sx coupe, but I love the s14 and s13 hatch much more.

haha yea, bloomfield is right outside of patterson or right next to it iirc.....

Yeah, i figured that too. To be honest, i full expected the motor to be shot, and i dont have an extra grand for the swap.

I actually prefer the coupe for the s13. but id take an s14 over anything.

My offer still stand though, if you need any help with anything, id be glad to assist if i can.
